This position is key to maintaining production in our busy Foundry.  Therefore, you are required as a foundry operative to learn all aspects of melting and casting as soon as possible.   

 The ability to learn and carry out the following tasks will be necessary:

  • Loading and operating furnaces to melt “heats” of metal to produce a wide range of alloys
  • Mixing heats and skimming off dross
  • Recognising different metals and using them to correct “heats”
  • Transferral of molten metal to holding furnaces using overhead cranes and ladles
  • Casting billets using wet and dry dies
  • Preparation of table and dies
  • Correct usage of gas, oxygen and water in the casting process
  • Removal of billets from casting pit using tables and overhead cranes
  • Preparation and maintenance of tundishes and launders
  • Chipping and deslagging furnaces and ladles

This work can be physically demanding and we would expect you to observe the relevant safe working and environmental practices and procedures including the use of personal protect equipment.

Full training on all aspects will be provided.


This position offers a group personal pension plan which you are eligible to join after your 3 months probationary period.  

Holiday entitlement: 25 days per annum (pro rata) plus bank holidays.

Working Flexible hours to suit the business needs and being able to work part of a team is essential.  

Hours of work 37.5hrs per week on a shift rota, including nights.
